cubicle 7 is finally getting around to putting out some support with it though. The W&G system takes place entirely in Imperium Nihilus but has limited support.
WARHAMMER 40K DARK HERESY 2ND EDITION CHARACTER CREATOR PC
A campaign starts at a particular tier and advances through that tier w/o leaving it, so there really isn't tier crossover after PC creation. So, if you took an Imperial Guardsman and used to rules to bump him up as a starting character with starting Primaris Marines, you'd have Sly Marbo or something like him. More powerful options are available only at the higher tiers-> eg Imperial Guardsman tier 1, Sister of Battle and Rogue Trader, and Psykers tier 2, Space Marines tier 3, and Primaris tier 4, IIRC, Rules do exist for bumping a lower tier option up so as to play in a higher tier. The way the W&G system works is that campaign types are divided into about 4 tier levels with different character options available at each level. They picked up all the old FFG games and began selling them as PDFs, so all the FFG material is available online through them. Note: The system was handed over to Cubicle 7 after a little while.
Wrath and Glory was published by Ulisses Spiele and came out after FFG discontinued its line but didn't seem to pick up at all.
Black Crusade and Only War (maybe DH 2e too) had a more open approach where basically every talent/skill was available but or cost more, or less, depending upon your choices made at character creation. Originally, all the systems had one advance through ranks with very little available outside one's class/specialty. The systems were modified over time though. Note: I liked the DW RPG system and both played and GM'd it quite a bit. There is also a Dark Heresy expansion (ascension) that carries the xp and power level up to the top of the Deathwatch game. The top of Rogue trader crosses over in power with the lower end of Deathwatch. Only War and Dark Heresy are both roughly at the low end with their top tapering into early Rogue Trader. In theory, if characters from one gain system gain enough xp to match those from another system, they should be good for a crossover but xp comparisons aren't as accurate of a power comparison as the rules suggest. Only War- play as members of an Imperial Guard unit and/or support specialists from outside the guard such as Enginseers, Commissars, and PsykersĬrossover Rules- the systems are designed to fall on basically 1 XP scale with the different games covering different parts of it. Rogue Trader- play as members of a Rogue Trader dynasty and his retinueĭeathwatch- play as members of the Deathwatch and includes rules for making your own chapter(s)īlack Crusade- play as followers of Chaos and as its champions The games wereĭark Heresy, and Dark Heresy 2nd edition- you are part of an inquisitorial retinue and/or inquisitors in training Fantasy Flight games created a number of RPGs for the 40k universe and each received a fair amount of support.
